Mobile Learning: Integration Theories and a Social Ecological System Approach

Mobile devices can be used to push the boundaries of education to transform teaching and learning. However, mobile learning involves a nebulous blend of pedagogical approaches, content interactions, social interactions, and school cultures and traditions. This keynote will unpack mobile learning to provide concrete approaches and strategies for impactful mobile learning practices. Dr. Crompton will begin by delineating how mobile learning can go beyond traditional pedagogies. This is followed by research findings of factors that influence mobile learning integration, such as educator beliefs, resources, methods, and purposes. Next, integration frameworks, and a social, ecological systems theory will be presented that can be used to ensure educators are using mobile devices effectively with a system wide approach. Thus, providing a roadmap for transformative mobile learning approaches that use the mobile devices to their full potential.
